Challenge: Battle For A New Champion

Was Corey Wrong For Sending in Asaf?

In one swift move, the US alliance has become disrupted.

So far, Battle for a New Champion has been a game where the US contestants have been running things. There’s one major alliance in the house, and they mostly have the power to control a majority vote.

Then, “chaos” was introduced, and the winners have the ability to make decisions without getting a majority vote. Such was the case when Corey and Ravyn were victorious.

After a brief deliberation, they nominated Asaf directly into elimination, and it didn’t seem to be a popular choice.

This was a bit of a shock for Asaf, because by all accounts, he was friends with Corey and was intending to remain loyal to his alliance (which Corey was a part of). There were multiple international competitors on the chopping block, but somehow, Corey and Ravyn arrived on Asaf’s name.

This begs the question: Why didn’t Corey and Ravyn pick an international Challenger? Well, Emanual is part of the “US alliance” and Ciarran is kind of connected to Ravyn. This would leave James and Callum, and both of them seem like they should have been options. However, James has won an elimination and is kind of an item with Moriah. Similarly, Callum is kind of an item with Michele. So nominating either would cause a riff in the US alliance.

You could argue that Asaf is really close with Jay, perhaps even closer than Moriah and James or Michele and Callum. These two are true friends outside of the show, but Corey didn’t seem to know this.

So, it seems that Corey might not have been as close to Asaf as the show made it appear, but they did make it clear that the two were part of the same alliance. However, you need to consider the ramifications of nominating an international player. Best case scenario: One goes home, but the nominator (Corey) would have at least two other people seeking vengeance.

It ultimately seems Corey picked Asaf to go into The Arena because he’s perceived to be the weakest male in the US alliance. Not just physically, Corey believed he has the weakest social connections. So, if he went into The Arena, he’d be likely to go home, and the remaining US allies wouldn’t be too mad.

This is something that happens with a very fresh cast. People are insecure in their relationships, and many alliances aren’t common knowledge.

Of course, there could be more to the story, but Corey made the best decision he could in the limited time given to him. It also seems likely that this move will have ramifications, especially because Asaf didn’t even compete in The Arena and returned to the game. This is the down side of winning so early in the competition, but with any luck, Corey’s move will blow over and there will be a new public enemy #1.
