The Challenge Battle for a New Champion: Top Moments from Episode 12

The top moments from episode 12 of Battle for a New Champion

Ravyn’s back, no prize money is lost, but alliances are shifting.

Ride or Done

Nurys calls home, and her family gives her some news. Somehow they’ve heard that Olivia has been talking “mad shit” about her, which upsets Nurys because she had so much love for Olivia. Later, Olivia voices her frustrations, but they’re mostly with Horacio. She feels Horacio no longer needs her friendship, and they haven’t been very close this season. In fact, Horacio didn’t even tell Olivia he was going to be on this season. Nurys insists that Horacio isn’t being malicious, and believes Olivia is projecting her frustrations.

Pushed Over the Edge

This week’s challenge is called We All Fall Down, and it’s played in teams of four. There’s a 30-foot tower, and it’s divided by a floating wall. Teams need to use that wall to push their opponents off a platform atop the tower. The game is played tournament style, and the first heat is Jay, Asaf, Ravyn, and Colleen against James, Kyland, Moriah, and Michele. Immediately, Michele feels attacked because her team doesn’t trust her and suspects she’s not going to try during the challenge. Despite the worries, Michele’s team wins — though James gets most of the credit. The next heat is Corey, Emanuel, Nurys, and Olivia against Ed, Horacio, Zara, and Berna. This heat seemed to last a little longer, but Ed’s team takes the victory.

The final round pits James, Kyland, Moriah, and Michele against Ed, Horacio, Zara, and Berna. The game goes back and forth, and the power dynamic shifts, but eventually Kyland falls off. This weakens his team, and eventually, Ed’s squad takes the victory.

Girls Powerless

The winning team is then tasked with nominating one girl for elimination, and it seems there’s no consensus. Names like Colleen, Ravyn, and Moriah get discussed, but a lot of people want to send in Colleen because it’s the easy pick — especially because Zara refuses to vote for Ravyn now. So, in a 3-1 vote, Colleen gets sent in. She’s frustrated because she doesn’t feel like she’s an important member of her alliance, and Ed seems to agree that she’s lower in the pecking order.

A Core Error

After getting voted in, Colleen talks to her allies, which includes Asaf. She figures out that there’s a core alliance consisting of Jay, Michele, Olivia, and Nurys, and feels that she should try to make a move and get one of them sent into elimination. She’s mostly right — but she’s made one critical error: Asaf is a part of the “Fantastic Four,” not Olivia, and Asaf gives Jay and Michele a heads up. Michele had noticed that Horacio’s mood has been “off” recently, and she’s worried that the “worker bees” are uniting to come after the “queen bee.”

A Team Divided

Olivia is getting concerned about Horacio because he’s spending a lot of time with Zara and Nurys, and he no longer seems to be on the same page as his former “Ride or Die.” While Horacio insists that he’ll never vote for Olivia, he can’t protect all of her allies. So, Olivia talks to Jay, and he insists that he only protected Horacio & Olivia on Ride or Dies because of Olivia — not Horacio. So, Olivia is starting to feel that she needs to work with her new allies and not Horacio. But, it’s clear people can’t depend on Olivia and Horacio to vote the same way, and the Fantastic Four is getting nervous.

Different Day, Same Vote

At the nomination ceremony, Ravyn says that many people haven’t gone into elimination, and if she gets voted in again, she can’t not take it personally. Despite this, she gets votes from everyone (except Kylan, who voted for Moriah). So, Ravyn’s going to the draw, but more people are opening their eyes to the obvious core alliance.

Chaos Maria

At the Arena, TJ pretends to be surprised by the nominees (per usual). Then, he brings out “one of the best” Challengers — Cara Maria. The cast is excited by this, but Cara finds out that Ravyn and Colleen have been nominated into The Arena multiple times while the other girls haven’t been down once. This upsets Cara, who was often picked on, and she asks Michele who should go into The Arena (omitting Colleen and Ravyn) if chaos is pulled. Michele can’t give a name, so Cara Maria decides that means Michele is nominating herself. And, as fate would have it, Cara Maria pulls chaos. So Michele is heading to The Arena.

Victory Blocked

The game is called Block Heads and the goal is for opponents to retrieve all of their puzzle blocks — which are large and heavy — and put them on their board. Then, they must arrange them to create a pattern. Immediately, Cara Maria starts rolling her blocks with ease, and Michele is moving much slower. But, Michele also knows that Cara has physical strength and puzzles are her thing. Despite Cara’s head start, Michele flies through the puzzle (with some help from the audience), while Cara Maria remains confused by the puzzle. So, Michele gets the win and keeps the money for the cast.
