The Challenge Battle for a New Champion: Top Moments from Episode 17

The top moments from episode 17 of Battle for a New Champion

Three players left last week, and one Nurys is back with a vengeance.

Reconciliation or Revenge

Nurys is back in the game, and she’s feeling betrayed and upset — but she successfully eliminated two big players from the competition. While Jay, Moriah, and Emanuel are dancing with joy, Olivia apologizes to Nurys. Olivia cries and says she made a one-second decision, but Nurys just says she feels “betrayed,” but she doesn’t lash out. In fact, she entertains the idea of forming an all-girls alliance. However, Nurys isn’t the only one upset by the vote. Berna feels upset that Michele didn’t prioritize her in the voting order. Even though Berna was safe in the end, she felt her spot in the game was jeopardized.

A Winning Rhythm

The cast shows up for the daily challenge, and they see a crane over water to play Drum Roll. All 10 players will be on a drum suspended over water, and the first five players to fall will go into the losers’ heat while the top five players go into the winners’ heat. Olivia is the first person to fall, followed by Michele, Colleen, Moriah, and Emanuel. The remaining five contenders advance to the winners’ heat. Berna, Corey, James, Jay, and Nurys compete to win, but Corey, Jay, and Nurys fall after a short period. James and Berna are up there for a while longer, and they both seem comfortable running on the drum. But, Berna outlasts James and she wins.

Beat It

The losers’ heat has more at stake because the loser is purged. Not only that but these players are not poised. Quickly, people are hanging onto the rope and not even trying to run — most specifically Michele. It seems like Emanuel and Colleen quickly synchronize with the drum’s pace, but Olivia and Moriah are flopping around. It seems like Moriah is losing her balance, but then, Michele’s arms give out. She falls onto the drum, falls into the water, and she’s heading home.

The Safety Shuffle

After the challenge, the cast is scrambling to piece together the voting order. Jay and Nurys haven’t spoken since she won her elimination, but he seems confident that he’ll redeem himself when he saves her during the vote. However, Berna plans for a hypothetical chain where Jay will have the power to save the final girl from elimination, and it’s between Moriah, Olivia, and Nurys. Jay insists that Nurys has been his friend for five years, but Berna would rather see him save Moriah. Then, Colleen tells Jay that earlier in the season, when people were plotting to get him sent into The Arena, Nurys was a part of the plan. Berna and Colleen insist they’ve been loyal to Jay all season, but Nurys had secretly been plotting against him.

Safe No More

Jay and Nurys finally talk, and Jay rips the Band-Aid off, he says he won’t save her. Nurys is surprised and insists she never betrayed Jay. She doubted him, but she never crossed him. However, Nurys knows Colleen was ready to pull the trigger on the vote Jay into elimination, but bailed on the plan when the numbers weren’t going to support this effort. So, Jay and Nurys get into a screaming match, and Nurys insists she won’t be friends with Jay after this show.

The Last Vote

The cast gets to the conquest vote, and TJ reminds Berna that everyone who gets saved gets to go to the final. But, that doesn’t sway her, and she sticks to the plan.

Berna- Corey- Colleen- Emanuel- Jay- Moriah

TJ then asks Jay why he didn’t save Nurys because he cried last week when she went into elimination. But, Nurys talks over Jay. She insists those were fake tears and Jay’s upset that she didn’t do exactly what he wanted during every vote this season.

The Last Conquest

The conquest elimination is similar to last week, and once again, only one person comes back. There’s an obstacle course and three puzzles, but the puzzles have changed again. They are:

-A game where the competitors have to look through a small hole and recreate the orientation of the light switches they see
-A slider puzzle that requires players to move a square from outside a box to inside it
-A game where players go into a bucket of ice water, retrieve pieces with numbers, and place them in the order other contenders were eliminated this season

James is the first person to get a flag, solving the switch puzzle, but Nurys isn’t far behind. She solves the slider first, and this proves to be the toughest puzzle. Olivia is still working on this slider (her first station) and James gets stuck on this game. Meanwhile, Nurys zooms through the switches and gets to the ice bucket. She knows this order because she wrote it in her journal, and she wins the elimination with ease.
