Challenge: Battle For A New Champion

Olivia Reveals She Left Season 39 Injured — and She Wasn’t the Only One

Three competitors left Drum Roll injured, including two people who were eliminated on episode 17.

You wouldn’t know it from watching episode 17, but the Drum Roll challenge resulted in several injuries. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Michele and Olivia discussed the injuries that were sustained due to the falls off the drum.

Olivia explained that this was a design flaw with the challenge. If a player was actually running as the drum rotated, their feet would be the last body part to fall. This meant they’d faceplant into the water.

After her fall, Olivia broke three ribs and she ruptured one of her implants. So, she will now need to get her boobs redone, meaning this is the second consecutive season where she’ll require surgery after departing.

Olivia also said she had difficulties breathing following the fall, and there would be no way that she’d be able to run a final.

While the viewers didn’t see the injuries in the final edit, most of the cast members will remember them — except for Colleen. Olivia also stated that Colleen received a concussion and she didn’t even remember running on the drum.

Michele also sustained injuries after this challenge, breaking two ribs. She was also vocal about the fact that this competition wasn’t fair for women. Even though Berna — who has a background with circus stunts — won, the men were better equipped for the strength and speed required to be successful.

Michele points out the fact that only one of the five competitors in the final heat was a man. But, perhaps this was by design. Before the challenge, there were six females compared to four males, so Michele’s elimination brought the number closer to equal.

While it sucks to see that many competitors got injured, it’s not exactly news. Multiple competitors have sustained serious injuries on the show, including Shauvon who thought she popped an implant on The Ruins, a very similar accident to the one Olivia sustained.
