Challenge: Battle of the Eras

The Challenge Season 40 Is the End of the Under Armour Era

Under Armour is out, TYR is in... but what even is TYR?

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras is digging through the archives to assemble a season filled with Challenge history, but one Challenge staple is leaving the show: Under Armour is no longer the jersey sponsor.

If you’re a longtime Challenge fan, you’ve likely become accustomed to seeing Under Armour on the show. The brand has been a wardrobe staple since season 15, The Gauntlet 3, which aired in 2008. Since then, cast members have received bags filled with Under Armour apparel each season and the logo has become synonymous with Challenge clothing.

This season, that will change. TYR is the sponsor brand on Battle of the Eras. The brand specializes in triathlon gear, specifically swim apparel, and it’s not exactly new to the franchise. TYR also outfitted the World Championship and The Challenge: USA 2.

While the flagship series has only had Under Armour as its sponsor over the past 25 seasons, other spinoffs have used brands that aren’t Under Armour or TYR.

  • All Stars 2 had Reebok
  • Champs vs. Stars 2 had Erreà
  • All Stars 4 has 2XU

So, why isn’t Under Armour appearing on season 40? Likely, this is just a financial decision, and spoiler account Gamer stated the partnership ended a few years ago, but the contract lasted through season 39.

This is just a small element of The Challenge, and it likely won’t impact the show much. However, many fans have established an affinity for Under Armour and the Challenge jerseys. For those fans, losing Under Armour will be a tough loss. But, this could be a good thing for the competitors. Some Under Armour products have had issues on the show.
