Challenge: Battle of the Eras

The Challenge Battle of the Eras: Top Moments from Episode 5

The top moments from episode 5 of Battle of the Eras.

As we enter the third team challenge, it seems Era 1 is on life support. Can they pull out a win?

In the Vacation Era

The casts gets into the house, and Gen 4 seems to be struggling. The team berates Josh for not volunteering to be team representative, but apparently, he was advised not to step up because CT was planning to become representative. And, lines are starting to get further blurred between eras. Michele is now hooking up with Devin, and team captains are afraid of making decisions because it will impact the “Vacation Alliance” — a group consisting of Josh, Tori, Kaycee, Devin, and a few other people who are mostly on Eras 3 and 4.

Y Oh Y

The daily challenge is called Fast Pass, and the teams are tasked with navigating a large, heavy, Y-shaped beam through trees to retrieve four sandbags. Then, they’ll repeat the process so they get four more sandbags. Once all eight bags have been collected, each era will nominate two players to take the bags and balance them on a makeshift scale. Immediately, it’s a disaster for Era 1 who fumbles the beam out of the gate. While most teams are struggling, Era 1 continues to have a hard time. They try to regroup, and Tina wants to change the strategy, but no one will listen to her, even though she’s a captain. Era 3 also has communication issues between ex-fiances Tori and Jordan, but Gens 2 and 4 are doing well and seem to have the lead. It looks like Gen 2 is about to be the first team to have all bag collected, but Laurel drops the beam, raising suspicions that she’s throwing the challenge.

A Loud Loss

Era 4 balances their beam and wins, giving Kyland and Olivia power. Era 2 finishes next, followed by Era 3. This means Tina and CT are the losing targets, and Tina gets mad. She yells at the team, accusing them of not wanting to listen to a woman. But CT yells back, claiming they tried everything and it didn’t work. Tina and CT apologize, chalking their argument up to frustrations, but they now have to face either Nehemiah and Emily or Devin and Tori.

The Vacation Alliance Puts In Work

At The Chamber, Olivia and Kyland wanted to address rumors of deals being made. Immediately, Nehemiah brings up the Vacation Alliance, which Devin doesn’t outright deny, but he only confesses to having Tori’s back. However, Devin brings up a deal Nehemiah proposed earlier where Gen 2 and Gen 3 would keep each other safe following the third team challenge (Fast Pass). He declined this offer, because he wouldn’t accept without talking to Tori. This looks bad for Nehemiah, and despite the fact that Kyland wanted to save him, Olivia feels Devin and Tori are more trustworthy.

The Great Wall of Laurel

Michele finally confronts Laurel — with whom she has a very checkered past — and Laurel isn’t really entertaining the conversation. Both girls seem to agree to be cordial, but not friends, until Cara Maria offers her friendship to Michele. The three girls disband, but Laurel feels this is Cara trying to rally people in her corner. Later, Cara Maria tells Emily about the interaction and says that she’s not letting Laurel have control over her, so she feels Laurel is picking on Michele instead. During the conversation, Cara Maria also alludes to the idea that Laurel through the Fast Pass challenge and that Laurel is intimidated by certain types of people… people like Emily.

Rivals Once More

Cara Maria is dying her hair, and Laurel walks by and notices that Cara Maria has an attitude. Cara says that she only has an attitude toward Laurel because of the way she’s treating people like Michele and Darrell (earlier this season). Laurel insist that Cara Maria is the one with the problem, saying that she’s pointing a finger, but three fingers are pointing back at herself. This starts as petty bickering, but escalates to a larger argument about how Cara Maria won’t take Laurel’s shit any more. Laurel insists she’s supported Cara Maria in the past, then the conversation gets choppy. Clearly, a lot is left out, but Laurel does bring up Paulie… who Cara Maria claims has actually had her back. By the time the girls are separated, security guards are intervening and Cara Maria is in tears. However, people like Emily, Rachel, Michele, and Ryan surround Cara and shower her in support.

Tina Vs. Emily

At the Arena, Kyland and Olivia send down Nehemiah and Emily, saving Devin and Tori. The competitors are playing Getting Hammered. Each player has two boards, one with 100 nails and another with 100 holes. The players need to remove their nails from the first board and hammer them into the second. When the girls start, Emily uses the claw of the hammer to remove her nails, but Tina, who’s a woodworker by hobby, knows how to use the back of her hammer to remove the nails exponentially faster. This puts Emily so far behind that Tina wins, shocking the cast. Emily is upset because this is her first elimination loss, but she’s gracious to Tina in defeat.

CT vs. Nehemiah

Going into this match, CT feels confident because he’s worked in construction. However, he can’t follow the same method as Tina and it takes him a bit of time to remove the nails. Nehemiah also isn’t Tina-fast, but he’s methodical. This race is much closer, and it looks like CT is hammering in his final nails — but Nehemiah is one step ahead. Nehemiah hits his button, wins, and CT is sent home, but he gives Nehemiah props for his success.

The New Targets

After winning, the new targets are chosen. On Era 1, Brad volunteers and Rachel is selected by default. Then, on Era 2, Nehemiah calls out Laurel because of her arguments on the team, and Tina selects Bananas because she’s close with Derek and Ryan. For Era 3 Cory volunteers and Nehemiah picks Jonna despite the fact that she didn’t volunteer. Finally, Josh volunteers on Gen 4, but Nehemiah selects Jenny to be the target again, much to her dismay.
