Challenge: Vets & New Threats

Cara Maria Throws Shade at the ‘New Threats’

Cara Maria wasn't super enthused by the new folks from international dating shows.

Now that season 41 has officially been announced, cast members can break their silence on being part of the season. One such cast member is Cara Maria, who seems to show a lack of enthusiasm for the newbies.

In a recent Live — while doing her hair — she responded to fan questions.

Cara Maria called the newbies people “coming from dating shows in other countries.” While this doesn’t apply to all of the cast members, it’s not entirely untrue. There are a handful of people who originated on dating shows, and a fraction of those people are from international programs.

This comment may have been sarcastic, but it’s not surprising that Cara Maria would say this. She’s been fairly vocal about her confusion over the casting process, and let’s be fair, many viewers are also scratching their heads.

Cara Maria also said that the newbies lacked personality, but she invited viewers to make up their own minds by watching the show.

This comment also isn’t super surprising. Challenge fans who follow online communities may have seen rumors that the “new threats” didn’t have a huge presence. Then again, fans who follow spoilers may have read that the newbies are involved with the season’s plot points, so it seems Cara Maria may be generalizing the cast.

The season hasn’t even started airing, but a division is forming. Perhaps this will lead to drama between the veterans and newbies, or maybe Cara Maria isn’t exaggerating and the rookies really are that boring.

  1. There must be some crossover of viewership for them to consistently pull from other shows. I would personally prefer that they start auditioning new talent the same way they did for RW/RR, rather than people who already have reality-tv egos and who play their ‘characters’.

    1. I think both ways can work though they usually pick the scrubs from other reality shows or ditch them after 1 se

    2. I think both ways can work though they usually pick the scrubs from other reality shows or ditch them after 1 season, I have hope with 41 that rookies will be good.

  2. It’s hard to get invested in the rookies because most only last for a season or so and they move on. On this season, only two of the vets, Olivia and Michaela have debuted on the challenge in the last 4 years. Also, rookies are cheap to pay so they think it’s better just to cast newbies for a season or two before they get to expensive. Then they go back to the casting pool and find new people for the show.
