Trey Weatherholtz Talks About His 13 Year Challenge Absence

Why hasn't Trey been back to The Challenge? He's just as confused as you.

The Zach Nichols Podcast has reunited its host with his former rival. Trey Weatherholtz stopped by, and the two eventually talked about Trey’s absence from the show.

During the interview, Trey expressed frustrations about the lack of communication from producers. He last appeared on the show in 2013 when he filmed Rivals 2 at age 25. He feels that the show stopped contacting him when he was at his physical prime, and he lost a lot of his best competitive years.

To some degree, Zach was able to empathize. While Zach appeared on seasons after Rivals 2 (he did the very next season, Free Agents), he stopped receiving calls after War of the Worlds 2.

Trey worried that producers weren’t calling him because he was “difficult” to work with. He noted a moment on Rivals 2 when he got frustrated with a producer who wanted him to put on a mic early in the morning. At the time, Trey was shirtless in the Thailand heat, so he didn’t have a place to clip the mic. He was also eating cereal by himself, so there was no audio that needed to be picked up.

Zach insisted this moment wasn’t the reason Trey wasn’t getting contacted, presumably because Zach has done worse and didn’t face repercussions.

Assuming Zach is correct, this leaves Trey without answers. About a decade later, Mark Long contacted Trey to talk about the possibility of doing All Stars. Mark told Trey to keep an eye out for a call about All Stars 3, but it never came.

Keep in mind, this was the season with all finalists, a category Trey didn’t fit into. So, that may be a reason he wasn’t contacted for All Stars 3. All Stars 1 and 2 primarily cast competitors from older Real World and Road Rules seasons, so Trey’s Real World debut was likely too recent for those shows.

Then, Trey wasn’t contacted for All Stars 4 or the fifth season. There weren’t any casting limitations on season 4, and the male cast was pretty random, so he could have fit into that season.

It does seem Trey remains open to making a return, but he’s also fallen victim to radio silence. There have been many opportunities for him to be included on shows, so it’s only natural for him to wonder why he hasn’t been invited back. But you never know — his luck could change in the future.
