Rivals

Rivals: Episode One

It’s baaaack…..

The first episode of Rivals premiered on Wednesday night. It featured a cast of 28 Real World & Challenge alumni competing in teams of two with, well, their Rival.

The episode has some surprises in it, as well as some things that were not so surprising.

Firstly, TJ Lavin returned as host. I’m glad to see him doing so well. He took a nasty fall in November, and he’s recovered enough to host the challenge. While a part of me would like to see a new host (This is TJ’s 11th challenge in a row!) I’d never want to see him hurt, so I’m glad he’s well enough to be the host.

The thing the disappoints me the most about this challenge is that there are no Road Rulers. While Roadies are becoming less and less common on these shows, I’m surprised to see zero on this cast. Not that I dislike the cast, but it would be nice to have a few Roadies show up for the old school fans. Oh well….

The challenge was honestly kind of lame, it was just a jumping contest. A lot of people got DQed because they jumped after the line. However, what was surprising is that the rookies won. I guess that Leroy and Adam winning isn’t too surprising, but the fact that Jasmine and Jonna won is what really surprised me. They’re the tiniest girls on the cast. I also like that the last place team automatically goes into the “Jungle.” Paula and Evelyn ended up getting sent in because they were the fastest to DQ themselves. Then the cast voted in Robin and Aneesa, which is upsetting to me. As much as I don’t like the whole “rookies go in first” policy, I dislike it even more when the old schoolers end up leaving first. And that’s just what happened. Aneesa and Robin left.

At the end of the episode, Adam and Ty got into a fight and Adam punched Ty. Adam can be a douche at times, but Ty was making fun of the girls on the cast for seemingly no reason, so I can kind of understand where Adam was coming from. Ty also seemed awfully proud of himself for getting Adam eliminated from the competition. What a jerk!
