So far on “Battle for a New Champion,” it’s become clear Berna isn’t quite meshing with the rest of the cast. In episode 1, she was a buzzkill after she failed to secure a spot in Michele’s room. On episode 3, she got into an argument after Melissa gave her weird looks for her dancing by the hot tub.
Both times, the tension led to her name being discussed during deliberation. Though she’s avoided The Arena so far, a pattern is starting to develop.
When MTV posted the clip of Berna and Melissa’s fight, many of the cast members commented, some supporting Berna and others speaking against her. Melissa reiterated what she said on the show, she doesn’t take the term “bully” lightly, but she also said other people were laughing and giving Berna looks. Meanwhile, Corey praised her for staying calm in the moment.
However, Kyland alluded to a bigger story — one where half the house was sick of Berna. He also stated that she was rude to half the cast, production crew, and service members. While in the house, he said many people were speaking about Berna behind her back. And to make matters worse, the laughter and shady looks in the hot tub had nothing to do with Berna.
Berna claims this is made up, and Kyland is looking to be the good guy in the situation. While we don’t necessarily see Berna being overly rude, it’s hard to deny that Kyland’s narrative doesn’t align with the edit she’s receiving on the show.
Some of this could stem from differences in language and culture. Ultimately, that contributed to the argument between Berna and Melissa.
However, we often see Berna apologizing and saying she doesn’t want to fight in the future. Clearly. something is making it hard for people to connect with her, and until she establishes stronger bonds, people will have an excuse to nominate her into The Arena.
