It’s been a long road to recovery following Nelson Thomas’ March 2023 accident and the resulting foot amputation earlier this month.
Fortunately, Nelson is recovering from the surgery and he’s doing quite well. He’s reconnected with some of his Challenge friends (at least the ones that are still around), including a TikTok conversation with Nany. She asked if MTV helped Nelson with any medical bills, and Nelson claims BMP (The Challenge’s production company) turned their back on him once news of the DWI came out.

Nelson said that his lawyer initially advised him not to talk about being intoxicated when the news of the accident was released, but once it became public information, he received a lot of backlash. This includes MTV, though Nelson did not say whether or not the network supported him before his DWI charge became public.
He also said that he understands the network is a business, plus, they’re not responsible for the accident. Still, this led to feelings of isolation. He even had his picture posted on TMZ with false claims that he was off partying in Mexico. In reality, he was with his mother, but TMZ required him to pay fees to have the headlines taken down.
Many people will side with MTV on this, and that’s totally fair, but it’s also fairly hypocritical of the network. They’ve given opportunities to many people who have received DUIs, most notably, Mattie was cast on Total Madness and Floribama Shore after getting her third DUI charge.
More recently, people with DUIs have been cast on All Stars seasons, though most of those charges are many years old.
Though this has been a long battle for Nelson, it does seem he’s on the road to recovery. He’s adapting to his life following the amputation and it seems he is finding ways to stay active and competitive.
