Challenge: All Stars: Rivals The Challenge

10 Challenge Pairs that Could Make a Modern Rivals Season

It's Rivals, just with the same people you've seen multiple times in the post-pandemic Challenge era.

Word on the street: All Stars 5 will be flooded with cast members from the modern era of The Challenge. There’s also a rumor that the format will be Rivals, essentially bringing an “all star” format into the modern era.

While The Challenge seems to want to avoid drama during its more recent seasons, there are still some people who hate each other, and they’d make interesting partnerships if they were to be paired together. Keep in mind, this list is just for fun — these pairs are not confirmed for All Stars 5… nor is the rivals format.

What constitutes “modern?” The rivalry must include at least one person who appeared on Spies, Lies and Allies; Ride or Dies; Battle for a New Champion, or All Stars 3 or 4. Also, I am only looking at same-sex partnerships.

Nurys & Olivia

If you watched Battle for a New Champion, you’ll know these two girls were close friends coming in… until Olivia made a decision to save herself. It meant Nurys went into elimination with Horatio, and the friendship crumbled. While Nurys claims she’ll never forget the betrayal, it’d be interesting to see if they could put their anger to the side for the sake of the competition.

Jay & Horactio

On Ride or Dies, Jay was eliminated by Horacio & Olivia because the audience wanted Jay & Michele to lose in the Zone. The next season, Jay’s alliance became the majority and Horacio was on the outside. Horacio’s crew put up a good fight, but they were ultimately annihilated by Jay’s group during the conquest stage.

Melissa & Ravyn

Really, this rivalry just comes down to the fact that Melissa lost her cool and threw a drink on Ravyn. They seem to have moved past the incident, but it’s MTV. They’ll use the clip to justify the pairing. Likely, this would be a modern era Jenn & Mandi.

Asaf & Kyland

Similar to Jay & Horacio, these two were at opposite ends during Battle for a New Champion. However, their hatred is escalated because Kyland called out Asaf for “betraying” Melissa. And the two haven’t made up — they almost fought each other when discussing the incident at the season 39 reunion.

Laurel & Michele

We all know Laurel is a tough competitor, but Ride or Dies wasn’t her season. Instead, we saw Jay & Michele set their targets on Laurel, and Michele received a lot of the backlash. Michele’s gameplay did result in Laurel’s departure from the show, but when Laurel returned on Battle for a New Champion. she declared she wanted to face “purple jacket” (aka Michele), continuing the distrust between the girls.

Derrick & Nehemiah

On All Stars 1, Nehemiah and Derrick burned votes on each other, sparking a playful feud. Only Derrick made it to that final, but on All Stars 2, Derrick crossed Nehemiah when he didn’t nominate Ryan into the first Arena. Then, Nehemiah got his revenge by helping Steve vote Derrick into the third Arena, and Derrick went home. Things came to a head on All Stars 3, when at the end of the season, the two faced each other in a Pole Wrestle, and Nehemiah sent Derrick home right before the final.

Aneesa & Cara Maria

These two girls never really saw eye-to-eye, and it was alluded to during seasons like Battle of the Exes and Rivals 2. But, it really came to a head prior to the final elimination on Battle of the Bloodlines during a fight on the bus. Cara later eliminated Aneesa, and while they hugged in the end, it always felt like animosity lingered. The two have very different social circles, and now that Cara Maria is back on the Challenge scene, she could be given the ultimate Challenge: help Aneesa win.

Bananas & Cory

During Cory’s early days on the show he was never shy about targeting Bananas. We saw this on Bloodlines, Dirty Thirty, and his brief Vendettas stint. But, it felt like the two Real World alum were getting along for a while… until USA 2. Cory was part of the team that got Bananas sent into elimination, and when Bananas came back to the game, he stole Cory’s spot on the Blue Team.

Amanda & Tori

It’s hard to say when this feud really began, but a good place to start is Spies, Lies and Allies when Amanda took Tori’s spot on the emerald cell. This ended in the two girls duking it out in the season’s final Lair, and the rivalry carried over to USA 2. The girls were fighting before the season started airing, and during the season we watched Amanda allow Tori to get sent into the Arena.

Josh & Wes

If we were just looking at their fake feud on Total Madness, this rivalry wouldn’t be justified. But, as much as people hate to admit it, Josh kind of bested Wes on USA 2. Josh cast the random third vote against Wes, and the hopper pulled Wes’ ball. The fact of the matter: Josh betrayed Wes, and Wes’ friend welcomed Josh back into their alliance with open arms.
