Nia made an appearance on the Zach Nichols Podcast, and as the show often does, it revealed some secrets from past challenges.
Specifically, she talked about her relationship with Averey after the Real World: Portland.
Nowadays, we know Nia and Averey are cool, which is why they talked about this period of time while filming Battle of the Eras. According to Nia, she was willing to do the first Challenge she was offered (Rivals 2). Averey also wanted to be a part of the Challenge scene, but after her fight with Nia on The Real World, she wanted nothing to do with her former roommate.
So, Averey declined the offer to do Rivals 2 which is why Nia didn’t get to go. Zach agreed with Averey’s decision, because if he was attacked with a blow dryer, he’d probably avoid the perpetrator too. Zach also noted that it was weird when Jessica & Anastasia were on the season because they really didn’t have any type of drama after Real World: Portland.
Nia has shown a lot of maturity in recent years, so she understands Averey’s perspective. She also admits that she wasn’t the friendliest person after The Real World finished filming. She’d pretend to squash her beef with Averey, but the next day, she’d resort to her old Hurricane Nia antics.
Nia didn’t even know Averey was the reason she wasn’t cast on season 24 of The Challenge until they talked in Vietnam. Luckily, both girls went on to do future seasons, but they would have been a dream team for Rivals 2. They likely would have been a much stronger duo than Jessica & Anastasia, but it’s doubtful that they would have outperformed eventual-winners Emily & Paula, so maybe this decision was for the best.
