Challenge: Battle of the Eras The Challenge

Does The Challenge Need Horacio?

Horacio reveals he wasn't contacted to appear on season 41.

The season 41 cast is only made up of 50% veterans, and most of them are people who have been doing the show for decades. While there are a handful of newer faces, Horacio isn’t in the mix.

Recently, Horacio went on Instagram and said that he wasn’t even contacted for the upcoming season. His story seems to suggest the controversy following his elimination on Battle of the Eras may have been the reason. He even said that he had to speak with the show’s legal team after he discussed the scandal on social media.

In true Horacio fashion, he expressed his gratitude for his time on the show, but he seems to be under the impression production has moved on from him. This would be quite surprising, because production loved him after Ride or Dies. He was treated as a male ingenue who battled his way through the competition and earned respect from the veterans.

Because there are so many veterans who are still running the show, the Challenge seems desperate for a strong, fresh face to keep the show going. Horacio seemed poised to be that person. He’s in a relationship with Nurys, established an alliance, and even made some rivals on Battle for a New Champion. There was a lot of untapped potential in this story line, especially because he and Nurys left Battle of the Eras early.

While Horacio alluded to the possibility of production moving on from him, there’s also a logical reason he may not have been in the mix for season 41. Late last year Horacio competed in Exatlon Estados Unidos season 9. In January, he left the show due to an injury. He fractured his meniscus and tore a ligament in his knee, but luckily, surgery was not necessary. This would obviously impact his ability to compete on season 41, which started filming in March.

Generally an injury like this isn’t enough to prevent MTV’s outreach. Producers want to keep their favorites informed, just in case they heal and can make it to the show, and some people can proceed with filming if their injuries are mending. People like Melinda and MJ did All Stars 3 while nursing injuring, and Turbo appeared on All Stars: Rivals after injuring his leg on Survivor Turkey.

The Challenge really needs younger people who can maintain the franchise, because many of the veteran mainstays are getting old — and injured (not naming names here). Horacio was on of the people who really stood out as a fan favorite who emerged from the new age of the Challenge.

It does seem that there’s some bad blood after his Battle of the Eras departure. Before the season aired, Horacio talked about retiring, but that may have been a reaction to his elimination. Hopefully, Horacio is misinterpreting MTV’s lack of communication surrounding season 41, or maybe it’s a slap on the wrist. If there’s some type of drama between him and production, let’s hope they get over it. Horacio is a standout from Era 4, and he’s a player the franchise can’t afford to lose at this point.

  1. welll what did he expect ? He and nurys as much I love them and they are good for the challenge. It’s justs common sense you don’t slap the hands that feed you 🤦🏽‍♂️.. so if he doesn’t return he and nurys have only themselves to blame. This is what happens when you think you’re too important to be replaced…… like baby love yall but yall are not CT status….
