Former Real World Brooklyn star and Challenge champion Sarah Rice has gone on Instagram to share some joy from her life. She appears to be dating another woman, and she posted a montage of happy clips from her life.
She captioned the video by calling herself the “she’s Gay now” person, which makes the clip seem like it’s a coming out announcement. But is it really?

Sarah filmed her Real World season in 2008 (it aired in early 2009), and she had a boyfriend at the time. But, she had always been open to the idea of a queer relationship. In a 2009 interview, she didn’t label herself, but she also didn’t dismiss the possibility of a same-sex relationship.
If you watched her Real World season, you may know this. If you primarily watched The Challenge, you might remember Sarah having flings with Vinny, Alton, and Jordan. She was also married to a man when she appeared on Rivals 3, so at the time, her love life was primarily marked by heterosexual relationships.
Sarah’s “she’s Gay now” comment appears to be a tongue-in-cheek way of addressing the change in public perception. Some people may be surprised by the news, but Sarah is responding by leaning into the joke and proving she’s living her best life.
Her video was met with many celebratory comments from cast members, including Trishelle, Ryan Kehoe, and Aneesa. She also got a supportive comment from her Real World roommate Scott, who joked about the Brooklyn season being the “gayest” real world season. He mentioned that it had JD and Katelynn (she’s trans, but still part of the LGBTQ+ community). The season also promoted a movie that MTV was producing about the life of Pedro Zamora.
Scott’s comment also shared an update about his Real World roommate Baya. He celebrated that she’s also in a same-sex relationship and got married last year.
It’s great to see Sarah in a happy place in her life, even if her news isn’t really news. Big congratulations are in order for her, and belated congrats for her former roommate Baya.
