Another one of MTV’s iconic shows is ending its run. Jersey Shore Family Vacation will air its eighth and final season on the network, premiering Thursday, May 7.
This really shouldn’t be a huge shocker. The Family Vacation revival has accumulated eight seasons — which is two more than the six original Jersey Shore seasons. Together, this means the cast has filmed 14 installments, starting in 2009.

The announcement has generated a lot of attention, but there’s some very key language. Outlets have reported that the show is leaving MTV. The release also says this season marks the end of Family Vacation, which leaves space for another installment down the road.
The cast seemed insistent that this is not the end, and they were clearly involved in controlling the release of this news. In a clip for TMZ Ronnie said, ” Ending? We’re just evolving.” Angelina stated, “MTV’s changing but we’re not.”
More than anything, this shows that MTV is trimming all of its programming. Shows like Catfish and Ridiculousness ended their runs, and The Challenge is allegedly moving to Paramount+. So, it was only a matter of time before MTV got rid of Jersey Shore, because it’s not really a home to any original programming anymore.
Even if the original nine roommates really are done, this shouldn’t be a shocker. Ratings haven’t been super impressive for recent seasons of Family Vacation (The Challenge and RuPaul’s Drag Race generally brought MTV higher viewership), and the story lines are getting recycles. The cast is getting older, and the show is far different than the original series that aired in 2009.
But we’re Shore to see more Shore spinoffs. MTV has had a few in the past — Floribama Shore was quite successful, and there are many international adaptations. Paramount+ has already started airing Canada Shore, another spinoff series that debuted in 2026.
If I was betting, Snooki and The Situation won’t be gone for long. The press release announcing the ending leaves room for ambiguity, and we know MTV is imploding. This likely means the crew will be found on a new platform, and if I had to guess, there’s a spot for them on Paramount+.
