Cory daughter Maya is recovering from a long, serious health concern, and Cory is sharing his side of the story.

TL:DR: Maya spent 18 days in a Texas hospital for a condition that compromised her heart and lungs. Maya’s mother, Taylor Selfridge, did an incredible job navigating this situation and Cory is with her during the ongoing recovery.

Based on Taylor’s Instagram post, Maya’s health scare began about a month ago. She was feeling sick, but Taylor thought she had a stomach bug. Turns outs, the condition was much worse and Maya eventually had to be airlifted to Cooks Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. (It’s unclear why Maya was in Texas at the time).
For those who have followed Maya’s health journey, the now-3-year-old has had health concerns since birth. She even underwent two open heart surgeries as an infant.
This health scare had a different complication thrown into the mix — Cory was in Thailand filming The Challenge 42 when Maya had to be taken to the hospital. And yes, Cory left the competition to be with Maya. Once he got home, he went to see her in Texas.
Of course, this is a difficult situation and Taylor had to navigate it by herself during the first, most critical days. She shared updates on social media, which The Ashley has done a good job documenting.
Based on posts from Cory and Taylor, it seems it was difficult to identify what was wrong with Maya. At one point, doctors thought it was plastic bronchitis — a rare and scary condition that makes breathing extremely difficult due to rubber-like buildup in the lungs. Cory also revealed Maya went through five procedures and was put on a ventilator, but she handled all of this like a champ.
Thankfully, Maya was in stable enough condition to be released from the hospital after 18 days. She then left to return to California, and she made it home safely.
Cory revealed that Maya’s health had her fighting for her lungs and heart. He said he would go into more details in the future, but this appears to be an ongoing battle and Maya will need to continue to monitor and manage her health.
Cory also showed immense gratitude for Taylor’s ability to handle this situation and prioritize Maya’s health. Undoubtedly, Taylor’s responsiveness saved Maya’s life. He also thanked the doctors and nurses who helped Maya.
While this is a scary moment in Maya’s life, it’s encouraging to hear she’s recovering at home and has shown progress. It seems she’s still early into her recovery process and her health issues will require more medical attention. But, she’s a warrior, and she’s lucky to have Taylor and Cory who are there with her as she navigates this grueling process.
