Every now and then there’s a challenge moment that makes me cringe. Not because it’s gross, but because I think it’s clearly a terrible decision. Some of these decisions are made by production, other decisions are made by the cast themselves. Here’s 5 moments that made my say WTF!
5. Sarah Gets Sent Home
On last night’s episode of Battle of the Exes Sarah’s partner Vinny got kick off of the challenge because he took off Mandi’s top while the cast was out at a club. Because her partner was being sent home, perfectly innocent Sarah also had to go home. Last season, when Leroy’s partner Adam was sent home, they brought in a replacement. So why send Sarah home?
4. Katelynn and Brandon Get Sent Home
On Fresh Meat 2 it was painfully clear to me that production was just looking for an excuse to not let an injured Katelynn compete in the Exile, but they claimed that the duo could not compete because Brandon drank 2 beers prior to the Exile. Firstly, the cast does not have access to outside locations so this was a beverage provided by production. However, the real reason I think the decision is bullshit is because Cara drank wine to calm her nerves prior to facing Kina in a Gauntlet on the Gauntlet 2. Why did this rule not apply then?
3. Emily Quits
On Battle of the Sexes 1, Emily was the girl to beat. She spent most of the season in the inner circle and fought with the other 2 girls in the inner circle until irrationally sent Veronica home. However, when the men voted her boyfriend James home, Emily decided that she too was donezo. So much for being a battle of the sexes, huh?
2. Steven Slaps His Way Home
On Battle of the Sexes 2, during a minor argument, Steven smacked Shane across the face and got sent home. Steven claimed this was a reaction because Shane was putting his hand in Steven’s face (but not on Steven’s face). So why is this ridiculous? Firstly, Shane said he didn’t want Steven to go home. Mandi was given the option to send Jenn home on Fresh Meat 2 and chose not to, so why can’t Shane choose not to send Steven home? Also, Shane slapped Darrell across the face on Road Rules Campus Crawl! He did the same thing and got away with it.
1. Beth is Disqualified
On the Duel 1, Svetlana called Beth into the Duel and had to compete in Push Me. The winner was the first person to retrieve their flag and unclip it from the carabiner, not just rip it off. Eventually, Svetty ran out of the circle where the Duel was taking place and Beth was able to get her flag. As Beth was unclipping her flag, Svetty started to push again and Beth ripped the flag. Then she unclipped the carabiner. Because Beth ripped the flag first, she was disqualified and then sent home from the challenge. Here’s the thing, Beth did not JUST rip the flag, she also unclipped the carabiner before Svetlana could prevent her. This was just an equipment malfunction and Beth clearly displayed mastery of the task. I’ve hear people take both sides of this debate, but I’ll always defend Beth.
