It has been a long time since MTV first went on the air. In fact, the network celebrated its 31st birthday on August 1st. That makes the network older than its target audience.
Of course, the network has changed drastically since it first hit the airwaves. Focus was initially placed on music, but the network now seems to focus on reality television. The Real World has been on MTV for over 20 years, meaning reality TV has had some presence on MTV for about 66% of its life.
While MTV continues to change, it remains a popular network with America’s youth. I hope to see the network on the air for another 31 years!
