If you watched War of the Worlds 2 during its original run, you might remember commercials advertising Challenge-sponsored Spartan Races and a “chance to appear on a future season of The Challenge.” We know this has no impact on season 35, but does it mean anything for season 36?
A bunch of Challengers showed up to sponsor the events. We had Tony & Jemmye, Brad & Darrell, Jordan & Da’Vonne, and Nicole Z. & Devin. These events gave us a lot of potential cast member, but will we actually see any.
My guess, no. We will not. This is like when we had a chance to vote for Stranded With a Million Dollars to appear on the next season of The Challenge. Nothing ever came of it because it didn’t align with future goals of the series. Right now, we don’t need more people in the casting pool. We have so many contenders from various shows that people are pulling publicity stunts to get cast. A bunch of unknown people are not going to a greater appeal than people from Big Brother, Survivor, or UK trash TV.
If they did bring in fans, I only see a couple coming on. Maybe one male and one female. Or, the coolest way (in my opinion) would be to make the “fans” from the Spartan Race mercenaries. They need to take out a Challenger to earn their spot in the game. I do feel like production would be OK with a “fan” coming in as a mercenary and then losing and going straight back home. When mercenaries came in on Final Reckoning we all knew they’d enter the game. Let’s be honest, there was no way Cory and Devin weren’t entering the game.
Sound like a good idea, fans as mercenaries? Well, don’t count on it. I don’t see it happening, but it would be a good way to integrate them into the game without overthrowing the current casting pool. By this time next year, we should have our answer. If I was betting, I don’t think we’ll see any new Fresh Meat on the show.
