The Challenge has been one of the longest standing competition shows in reality TV history. While some fans have been watching for over two decades, the show rarely receives recognition as a trailblazer in the reality TV community.
Now, it may be time for things to change. Double Agents has been submitted for consideration to the Screen Actor’s Guild for two categories: Outstanding Casting For a Reality TV Program and Outstanding Host For a Reality or Competition Program. Ultimately, this could have the program nominated for a daytime Emmy in the respective categories.
Both of these categories are relatively new. Outstanding Casting has only been awarded since 2017 while Outstanding Host has been awarded since 2008. Still, it’s curious that the show was never recognized in these capacities because the show predates the awards themselves.
Regardless, this is a step in the right direction. There’s no guarantee the show will be nominated, and it’s improbably that the show will win. Still, this speaks highly to MTV’s commitment to the show. The network wants the recognition, and it’s unlikely they’d invest efforts onto a show that doesn’t have a future with the network.
Best of luck to MTV, even though longtime fans had mixed reactions to the Double Agents cast. It would also be huge for TJ to win the award; he didn’t even win Best Host on the MTV Movie & TV Awards in 2021.
JSYK these FYC ads are for the Emmys, not the Screen Actors Guild. SAG has thier own awards, but they themselves don’t have any catagories for reality TV.
