If you watch The Challenge, you undoubtedly know Johnny Bananas. In fact, if you watch any reality TV, you likely know him. He’s appeared on multiple other reality shows, including The Traitors, House of Villains, and Worst Cooks in America.
Recently, he made an appearance on a different game show — but not in the way you’d expect. “Johnny Bananas” was the answer to a Jeopardy clue on episode 3 of Pop Culture Jeopardy on Netflix.

The exact question: “He’s the guy who CT wore on his back like a backpack to cross the finish line in a memorable moment on “The Challenge.”
This was the $1,600 clue in the Reality Check category of the Double Jeopardy round, making it the fourth-hardest question in the category. But none of the contestants knew the answer — they didn’t even try to wager a guess. Afterwards, host Colin Jost revealed Johnny Bananas was the answer and sarcastically said, “We all knew that.”
This could be a humbling moment for Mr. Bananas, who once claimed that he is The Challenge. It feels like Bananas is a household name to many Challenge fans, but Pop Culture Jeopardy may be a reminder of how few households actually get the show.

However, the specific moment referenced transcends The Challenge. The Johnny Bananas Backpack was featured in the season 2 premiere of Yellowjackets, seemingly making it a cultural moment.
It’s hard to gauge how well-known Johnny Bananas is, but he’s probably one of the best-known reality stars from MTV. However, he’s not really like Snooki, who was famously punched, or Lauren Conrad, who faked an entire series. Most people recognize Bananas because he’s just there, having been on MTV for nearly two decades. He doesn’t have a singular defining moment, and he only has a couple of moments that truly transcended his reality TV bubble (like the Backpack moment or stealing Sarah’s money).
If you don’t watch reality TV, Bananas is probably a D-list celebrity — and that’s more than 95% of the Challengers can say. After all, he did host First Look, and he’s had a few endeavors outside of the reality TV world.
In the reality TV world (not exclusively The Challenge world), he’s probably a B-list star. He’s well known among competition shows, but he’s mostly appeared on cable and streaming shows. However, Pop Culture Jeopardy is a streaming show, so it’s surprising there wasn’t a single person who could answer the $1,600 question.
