TJ has confirmed it: season 42 is moving to Paramount+, making Vets & New Threats the final season on MTV. This means it will be the end of an era, but will it be remembered as a good transitional point?
Season 42 is generally well-liked by fans, but it’s not without its flaws. Many of the true veterans performed poorly, and it was a particularly bad showing for CT. This resulted in the first final that had zero cast members who originated on an MTV show.
That fact alone is enough for some people to dislike the season, but episodes were also plagued by many unpalatable moments, such as Ashley’s fight with Aneesa, Turbo’s antics, and Sydney’s cockiness.

These factors have given viewers reasons to sleep on season 41, but overall, it will likely be fondly remembered.
Based on season 42’s cast, quite a few of the new threats are continuing with the franchise, so Vets & New Threats will serve as a pseudo-Fresh Meat season. The new threats also got a good amount of screen times, meaning viewers grew to like quite a few of them and will welcome them to so subsequent seasons.

Most importantly, Vets & New Threats was a bit unpredictable. We had some surprising twists, a few unexpected early boots, and an epic come-from-behind win in the final. Some viewers will dislike the season regardless because Bananas left early, and CT left midway through the game. But this wasn’t a season like Battle for a New Champion, where the finalists were unknown players. Viewers had some level of attachment to the four veterans in the final race.
Vets & New Threats is also a good transitional point. It introduced a class of rookies who were capable of beating the veterans at their own game. This is a signal for production to level the playing field, and I’d expect to see that on season 42.
