Episode 1 of Spies, Lies, and Allies ended with a confusing twist. Ed came into the game, but out of nowhere, Nam was “deactivated.” If you blinked, you wouldn’t even know he was on the show at all. He was there, but he gave no confessionals or commentary throughout the episode.
We know that production halted early into the season due to a COVID outbreak. In a recent Instagram video, Michele, Amanda and Ashely discussed the second quarantine (discussion starts around 48:20). According to the girls, Big T was the first one to get removed from the house. She showed mild symptoms and talked to production, then was quickly removed.
This is also the night of the big party. According to Amanda, there were people who were coughing and sniffling. They thought they had colds because there were no major symptoms displayed. Then, a few people tested positive. Right before the cast went back into the house Nam told Michele he tested positive. She cried, though it’s unclear whether this was due to fear of getting sick or fear of being removed from the show.
The only other person who we know to be allegedly positive is Berna. Amanda said she disliked Berna because she didn’t take COVID seriously: she was trying to talk to other people and disregarding the fact that she’d likely spread it to more people. Amanda treated COVID as a nurse and was especially irritated by the lack of respect for others.
In production’s defense, according to Michele, they tested people a lot. She was tested daily, as was the rest of the cast. After Double Agents, it’s clear the production can create a controlled environment where a show can be filmed. However, the risk is always there, and it might impact future seasons as well.
This who incident happened between the first challenge and first elimination. The second quarantine lasted around 10 days. This was long enough for Big T to recover and return to the game.
I hope Nam gets another shot at the show. It sucks that he left due to a back injury on Double Agents then allegedly left due to COVID on Spies, Lies and Allies.
Amanda also pointed out that Nam’s diagnosis, if real, is protected by HIPPA. This is why production never said anything on air and we can only assume these girls are telling the truth.
