Challenge: Ride or Dies

Emy Alupei Debuts Apology

Emy’s sorry for that thing she did that got her kicked off the show.

Did you know that Emy was on the Romanian X Factor in 2016? She made the top 40, but not the final 16. Still, she did get some airtime and was able to perform a few times on air.

During her time on the show, she rapped “Only” by Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, and Drake. And she rapped all of it, including the chorus with the n-word in it.

Of course, this didn’t stop her from appearing on Spies, Lies, and Allies. It did get her get removed from the Season 38 cast at the very last minute, because she was flown to Argentina with the intent of appearing.

Now that she’s off the upcoming season, she used her time to apologize. In a statement released on Twitter and Instagram, she stated that her X Factor performance was a tribute to her idol, Nicki Minaj. She also said she didn’t know her language was insensitive because she’s not American.

Assuming the best intent, Emy was probably unaware of the cultural impact of her language. Perhaps this was lost in translation or maybe she was voluntarily blind to it, but she’s now seeing the impact. Then, we only get the apology when Emy loses an opportunity.

But we also have to question production’s rationale here. Emy’s performance was five years before she appeared on The Challenge. Either production did a poor job checking her prior appearances or they just thought we wouldn’t care. But by the time Spies, Lies and Allies aired, the clip resurfaced, and fans knew about the performance.

But they cast her on Season 38 with Emanuel, only to take the opportunity away at the last second. And I’m not excusing Emy’s actions, but why let her get that far in the process before dismissing her. It’s just a waste of time and money, considering the offense is over five years old.

But, now Emy has seen the light. Here’s the apology, sincere or not.

  1. Cancelling someone for rapping a song yet Chris Brown is still popular after he beats the shit out of Rihanna. Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. There was absolutely no need to apologize.

    1. Not to mention they’re still allowing Johnny on the Challenge despite his treatment of Cheyanne and his sexual harassment

  2. The tragedy here is the fact that people don’t want to see that Romania is a small east European country that has nothing to do with American history. In fact we were never though in school about slavery and all the horrible things were done in America. If we would sing a song it was because we head it on mtv and we loved it. Romania is not a English speaking country so most of the times people don’t even know what the lyrics mean. It’s cruel to punish someone for something that has nothing to do with the crime. We are whither but we are Europeans and we have different history’s so please don’t put us all on the same bucket.
