Challenge: Battle of the Eras

Cara Maria and Laurel Reignite Their Battle of the Eras Feud on Instagram Stories

Laurel and Cara Maria's drama isn't over, it's just entering a new era.

When Laurel was purged on episode 12, Cara Maria said in a confessional that Laurel wasn’t ready to run a final. Her elimination following the Duned challenge was going to be less embarrassing than losing to an elite competitor in the final. But Laurel seemed cheerful when she left. She was ready to go home — but little did she know that the drama wouldn’t stop after The Challenge.

In her Instagram Stories, Cara Maria revisited the purge challenge and the house’s dynamic before they competed. She stated that she was talking about Laurel’s lack of physical strength the night before the purge and that she’d never be able to complete the final this season.

Cara Maria also said that Laurel should be praising Challenge producers for giving her a kind edit this season, because she said many unhinged things and there were a lot of nasty behaviors in the house.

Here’s the text from her Stories:

“The night before the purge I was on camera in era 4 room flat out predicting the future that Laurel KNEW she was in no shape to keep up with this caliber of girls this season and that she would never be able to complete a final if she couldn’t even run across the dirt fields we had challenges on (walking and popping balloons/ taking less trips even tho she was a target that day/ WALKING the ball field not even trying). I knew she was going to get purged soon. Called it. Next day I was right. She didn’t “quit” – she WAS NOT IN THE SHAPE MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY TO COMPLETE THE MISSION. Being a miserable angry insecure person sure does catch up to you. Shame because EMILY wanted to compete and deserved that spot. Also sad after Johnny defended her on every podcast… she rewards him with a 1 star to mess up his game. Some angel. She was working against him the whole time. He forgot the Golden rule of the challenge: trust. No. One. Everrrr.

Ps once I knew i wasn’t last or second last it really didn’t matter if I finished 5th or 6th. I was in no hurry at that point. But starting SOOOOOOO far after every one else got their keys…. Man Olivia me and Aviv killed that comeback!

If I was laurel I would lick the boots of the Challenge gods who edited her sympathetically this season. There were so many confessionals from so many put off people that weren’t shown. So many nasty unhinged behaviors towards other people deleted. Count all the lucky stars gifted to you again. But now everyone’s eyes are open. Thankfully life at the Challenge house is going to get a lot less Silence of the Lambs now. Freeeeeedommmmmm”

Laurel never really disagreed with Cara Maria — in fact, she admitted that she didn’t train for season 40. All she did before the season was eat Dunkin Donuts. Laurel’s issue mostly pertained with the fact that Cara keeps bringing her up.

In her comments, Laurel stated that Cara Maria is bitter because Cara can’t compete on the same level as her. Cara’s successes on the show are due to elite competitors taking a break, and Cara was only relevant because she was cast as Laurel’s rival. She also called Cara a “miserable” person and stated she’d be kicked off the show again in the future.

Here’s the transcript of Laurel’s Stories:

“She’s mad she can never beat me. My alliance always wins or I beat her. I get why she’s so SOUR. Bitter must taste so bad in her mouth. She hasn’t been able to keep my name out of her mouth since we started this damn show. She will never be the athlete she envies in me. She’s (uncoordinated and only ever won because all of the real female athletes left the show (Emily/Rachel/Evelyn/etc). I get she uses me as motivation to be better. Also heeded and took my direction when we were friends as a new philosophy to be better in the show. I coached her for years in athletics and personally. You’re welcome Cara for being the reason you have any strategic savvy on the show at all. Cause we all know without being partnered with me on Rivals you would have faded into the distance.

Message for the girl who will not quit talking about me: You’ll get kicked off the show again soon and l’ll just be a witness to it. You deserved being kicked off. Your misery can’t touch me. I’m sorry you are unhappy in your relationship with no purpose in life and this show is all you have. Like I said at the reunion I wish you even a fraction of the happiness that I feel. Hope you one day find yourself. Been wishing that for you since Abram. Still wish you happiness and peace. I’m just doubting you’ll ever find it bc of the cyclic patterns you continually choose ✌️”

Laurel also stated she wishes Cara Maria happiness, just like she said at the reunion. So, expect this conversation to be continued. Clearly the two left this season with bad blood, but despite Laurel’s comments, Cara Maria did last longer this time around. There really aren’t any technicalities with Laurel’s departure like there was on War of the Worlds 2.

On the flip side Cara Maria did post about Laurel first, so Laurel’s comments weren’t without instigation. Cara also spoke about Aviv’s performance in the Duned challenge. Cara said Aviv thought she was going to come in second-to-last (therefore going straight to the Arena), so she sprinted to the finish line on her injured foot. Cara Maria knew Michele and Laurel were behind her, so she felt no reason to kick it into high gear. Still, Cara gave Aviv props and called her a “little beast.”

  1. Typical Laurel always bringing up Caraa trauma. And for the record, Cara is a better person than Laurel, hands down. Laurel is the miserable one and needs therapy.

    1. Totally agree. Laurel does need therapy and is just a miserable, sad person. Cara is a much better person than Laurel. I can’t help but wonder how Laurel will treat people when they bring their animals to see her. Her personality will most likely affect her veterinary career in a negative way.

  2. The reality is that these two are equally toxic.

Cara constantly plays the victim role, because without it she doesn’t have the viewers’ support. For example: War of the Worlds II.

Laurel is insecure because Cara Maria has grown to the point that she may compare herself to Laurel (on confidence level).

They love each other, and they destroyed their friendship because of their partners, and they won’t apologize. It all started with Nicole appearing and Laurel prioritizing her girlfriend, and then Cara Maria did the same with Paulie.

But, in this current scenario, I, at least, give Laurel credit for being toxic and not pretending anything other than that for public sympathy. As for Cara, she can’t watch Laurel remain silent without going there to poke her, and then play the role of whiny victim that she always plays.

And this is a storyline that will go on for many seasons when these two meet, because it’s the story that they both like to tell.

Funny that a season of Cara without Laurel and Paulie is fun (see Dirty 30 and Vendettas), and a season of Laurel without Cara and Nicole also features a sensitive Laurel (see Ride or Dies).

    1. Not to mention that in this scenario (Along with that fight on Era’s) Cara is the one instigating and asking for it since she’s bringing it up first
