Challenge: Cutthroat (42)

The Challenge Cutthroat: Top Moments from Episode 4

What went down on Episode 4 of Cutthroat?

Is the Blue Team screwed? Probably, but the season moves on.

Dock to Dock

For the second week in a row, we head straight into the challenge. But this time, the cast has to take a boat. The game is called Infiltration Dive, and it takes place 15 feet underwater. It’s played in phases:
Phase 1: Swim to the first dock
Phase 2: Collect five puzzle pieces floating under the water, which is 50 meters long. There are dive bells where teams can catch their breath, and the teammates must swim across the course one at a time without surfacing.
Phase 3: Once everyone is on the second dock with the four puzzle blocks, they can race to the surface and unlock their treasure chest to win.

Immediately, some cast members are worried — like Nelson, whose prosthetic leg feels like an ankle weight. Other cast members are thrilled, like Lete, who’s mermaid certified. But this should give the Blue Team an advantage, because they only need to get five people across the course while the other two teams have eight. However, some people really struggle with the swimming, like Cara Maria and Nurys, who don’t know how to dive, and Nelson, who can’t figure out the swimming technique, even with his prosthetic off. This lets the Orange Team win, while the Grey Team comes in second—even though Nurys can’t complete the underwater swim. Once again, the Blue Team comes in dead last.

Another Grey Day

With the Grey Team in second place, captains Leo and Cassidy are at odds. Cassidy wants to nominate Adrienne for the Arena because it works well for her game; Leo would rather send in Nurys or Sydney, mostly because they voted for him last week (reminder: he did not go into The Arena). Nurys goes to the captains to plead her case, but Leo seems to believe Sydney is an asset to their team—despite her ego. Though most people feel keeping Sydney would benefit the Grey Team, Adrienne plays devil’s advocate. She believes Cassidy might want to eliminate Sydney, because then she would become Chris’ number 1 girl.

Blue Team Blues

Meanwhile, the Blue Team doesn’t have to make any decisions, but they are frustrated. Anna Leigh seems to feel defeated, which makes sense, because her team has placed last four times in a row. Josh confronts Cara Maria, the captain of the week, to express his concern. He feels she isn’t bringing much to the team, and he hasn’t seen the legendary competitor he believed Cara Maria would be. Cara claims she’s been doing this show her whole life, but Josh doesn’t think her experiences have helped the team. Cara Maria admits she’s still going through a tough time in her life, and she’s embarrassed by her performance, but Anna Leigh knows the veterans will protect Cara Maria— and Bananas will protect Lete— so her ass is on the line.

Forbidden Love

The cast is coupling up: Bananas and Lete, Will and Deb, and Josh and Adrienne. Cory admits he’s gravitating toward Izzy, but he has Taylor at home watching their two daughters. He doesn’t want to cross any boundaries, even though they aren’t in the best place, so he cools things with Izzy. Meanwhile, Leo is pursuing Anna Leigh, but there’s a problem: She’s married. Anna Leigh admits that it’s nice to connect with someone, but she also admits to Leo that she’s “so horny.” While the two don’t act on their impulses, the sexual tension is obvious to everyone who observed them.

Grey Betrayed

Nurys is getting upset thinking about the Grey Team’s vote because she knows Chris won’t have her back, even though she went out on a limb to defend him at last week’s elimination. She also believes the captains, Leo and Cassidy, will choose Adrienne, knowing Izzy will protect her. She’s correct, and that’s what happens. Then, the bulk of the Grey Team votes for Nurys as the second nominee, except for Cory and Nurys, who vote for Sydney. This means Nurys is most likely going into the Arena, so she takes the opportunity to call out her team—including Sydney, who she accuses of talking shit all day and being “fake as fuck.” She also tells Keanu he should have given her a heads-up, but he didn’t because he has no balls.

Faking It Gets Real

After the nomination ceremony, Nurys warns Adrienne about Sydney. She says Sydney talks shit behind people’s backs, and if Nurys is gone, Adrienne will be Sydney’s next target. Sydney chimes in to defend herself, claiming she talks shit in front of everyone’s face, but Nurys doubles down and reiterates that Sydney is fake.

Going Out on a Peg

At the Arena, Will and Izzy send in Nurys and Anna Leigh, as expected. The game is called I’ve Got You Pegged. Each girl will need to rip 15 pegs out of drywall and place them inside a puzzle board, and they’ll know the pieces are placed correctly when they’re all level. Immediately, the girls struggle to rip out the pegs, and Anna Leigh is the first to remove one. This puts Nurys slightly behind, but her pace starts to pick up. For a while, Nurys takes the lead as Anna Leigh struggles with one stubborn peg, but eventually Anna Leigh pulls her 15th peg while Nurys has 10 out of her wall. Anna Leigh still needs to complete the puzzle, and Nurys takes a break from the wall to work on the puzzle. This strategy isn’t the best, because Anna Leigh manages to get her pegs level, and she becomes the first Blue Team member to win anything this season.

The One Leader

Time to pick new captains, but there’s a twist. Teams only need to name one, and that person will permanently hold the position. So, every teammate will have a say in the choice. But we won’t know the selections until the next Challenge.
