Rookies have a tough road on The Challenge, and this pressure can have varying results. Some people get eliminated early, some defy the odds and reach the final, and some turn to chaos to survive.
Occasionally, we have rookies who are willing to bring drama to The Challenge that extends beyond the competition. They’re firecrackers in the house who get into arguments, break hearts, and wedge themselves into other people’s lives.
This list is for competitors who caused a lot of drama on their debut season. It’s not enough to get in a showmance or have a few arguments — these people did more. They unapologetically challenged the veterans without fear of retaliation, used romance as a strategy, and found unconventional ways to make The Challenge more stressful. Bonus points if their actions had real-life consequences that extend beyond the show.

10. Theresa Gonzalez (Fresh Meat 2)
Coming into Fresh Meat, Theresa knew she was meant to play a double agent. She & Ryan worked with both of the alliances in the house, but Theresa was willing to go the extra mile. She started the season by flirting with Kenny, who rejected her; then she moved on to Wes. Wes took the bait, only to find out he was Theresa’s second choice, which further strained Wes and Kenny’s relationship.

9. Ty Ruff (Cutthroat 2010)
As a member of the original Blue Team, the veterans seemed confident that Ty was their secret weapon. He looked the part, but he acted like a loose cannon. This led to fights with many people in the house, like his odd “bro job” debate with Brandon and his screaming match with Katie. Then, Ty smashed a potted plant on Emily’s bunk, and his team grew concerned with his antics. Eventually, he landed in an elimination, and his teammates were still convinced this was where he’d prove his worth. He didn’t. He gassed out and got disqualified in a game that seemed undisqualifyable.

8. Anastasia Miller (Rivals 2)
There may be one thing worse than intentionally causing chaos: being unaware of the drama you’ve created. On Rivals 2, CT quickly took a liking to Anastasia, and as far as she knew, they were both single. They hooked up, and then Theresa informed Anastasia of CT’s history. Frustrated and embarrassed, Anastasia confronted CT and literally kicked his ass. Then, she felt sick heading into the first Jungle and could barely compete. She went home, but once the season aired, she was unprepared for the rabid CT fans who only blamed her for messing with CT and Diem’s relationship.

7. Melissa Reeves (Vendettas)
As one of the first UK crossovers, Melissa knew she had work to do. She came into the game with her “vendetta,”Kayleigh, but this quickly became a minor storyline for her. Instead, she drew attention to herself by starting a kinda-sorta relationship with Nicole, simply because she thought Nicole was a strong competitor and would protect her (which was kind of true). Later, she got into an argument with Kam, where she threw out bullying accusations and landed herself in an elimination against Sylvia. This is where the claws came out — she literally scratched and kicked Sylvia — but she didn’t stay in the game… until she came back as a mercenary in the final (for some unnecessary reason), and she spread rumors that Kailah and Tony cheated on their partners at the reunion.

6. Jasmine Reynaud (Rivals)
Jasmine may have been the tiniest girl to ever compete on The Challenge, but she proved she could pack a punch on Rivals. She flipped the game on its head by simply doing well in competitions — once by winning the first daily challenge and later by defeating Sarah & Katelynn in a puzzle. But her wildest moments happened outside of the competition. She got into an argument with Camila, which turned into a fight with Theresa, which turned into a smashed mirror. Later, she got into an argument with her partner, Jonna, and she nearly quit the game — then Evan physically picked her up and put her back to bed so she wouldn’t leave.

5. Ashley Mitchell (Rivals 3)
On The Real World: Ex-Plosion, Ashley’s antics got her kicked off the season before the show’s major twist. On Rivals 3, we saw Ashley (and Smashley) at her full potential. She quickly got into a relationship with Jamie, then she screamed at Nicole for allegedly flirting with him (even though she wasn’t). Moments later, she was sleeping in Tony’s bed and arguing with Simone. Ashley & Cory made it deep into the season, and by the time they were sent home, Ashley established she wasn’t just there to create drama; she was there to compete.

4. Shauvon Torres (The Duel 2)
Viewers of The Real World: Sydney knew Shauvon was flirty and free-spirited, and it didn’t take long for the cast of The Duel 2 to figure that out, too. Before the first challenge, Shauvon and CT hooked up, which caused waves in the house. Adam told Diem, Diem confronted CT, and CT tried to kill Adam for spreading gossip. Shauvon was fairly unapologetic for her role in this drama, so when she was called into the first Duel, she took a swing at the veterans. She picked Aneesa as her opponent and was swiftly sent home.

3. Stephen Bear (War of the Worlds)
While we now know Bear’s behavior is truly criminal, it came across as more tongue-in-cheek on War of the Worlds. He constantly argued with his partner, Da’Vonne, to the point that he refused to complete the Tired Out challenge. But this incident was minor compared to his other antics, like when he started a feud with Wes, or when he randomly jumped on a poker table just to cause some drama. Bear was anything but shy, so it was mind-boggling when he thought he could take a call from his at-home girlfriend, then convince his Challenge girlfriend, Georgia, that she was his cousin. Predictably, this led to more (slightly comical) drama.

2. Anna Leigh Wilson (Cutthroat 2026)
Entering any reality show as a married person can be a slippery slope — especially on The Challenge. Anna Leigh took that risk coming into Cutthroat, and she made little effort to lay low. She started the season by earning the title of Blue Team captain, and she quickly formed rivalries with rookies and veterans alike. However, her biggest scandal was her flirtmance with Leo, which seemed to surprise people and irritate Lete and Justin. Her feud with Lete continued throughout the season, culminating in an odd incident where she allegedly stole Bananas’ underwear. Then, she left the season with more enemies — and screen time — than any other rookie.

1. Tony Raines (Battle of the Bloodlines)
Before the cast even put on their jerseys, Tony had more storylines than any other cast member accumulated all season. He entered Bloodlines shortly after breaking up with his pregnant girlfriend, Madison, and on the first night, he hooked up with Christina. He started arguments with a few veterans (which led to his pairing with Camila on Rivals 3), and this irritated his brother, Shane. The two got into a physical fight in the kitchen, for which TJ gave him a verbal lashing, but he was a decent competitor. Shortly into the season, he took a leap of faith during Meet Me Halfway, and he hit the platform and fell in the water. What seemed like a simple fall turned into a ruptured spleen, and Tony left the season with a missing organ and a literal scar.
