The official Challenge account posed an interesting question. They simply asked: Who wants another “Exes?”
The support for the format was overwhelming, so it seems like the interest is definitely there. So does this mean we’ll see it?
Probably not, but I wouldn’t rule it out. I also can’t really blame production.
Right now, the pandemic is still going on. As much as we may be sick of the spy themes from Double Agents and Spies, Lies and Allies, they make sense. No one is dependent on another person.
On exes, every person is entirely contingent upon their partner. Imagine both Brad & Britni agree, then one of them produces a positive COVID test. Now, they both need to go. As we saw on Spies, Lies and Allies, when one person leaves a replacement can be brought in.
Of course, vaccines are available to all Americans, so most people have some immunity if they’re vaccinated. This could make Exes 3 possible, but it also seems like a risk.
I’d say that the mere thought of production toying with this idea is a positive sign. They’re starting to recognize that certain formats work better than others, and fans have made it clear that they want themes that make sense. Even Amanda is getting in on the fun.
Let’s hope we get a good format next season. Even if it’s not Exes, any formats are better than Spies, Lies and Allies 2.
